Carpenter Studio Gear was started in Brooklyn early in the 2020 Lockdown by an audio engineer with a newly-empty social calendar and a budding love of woodworking.

Since 2023, we hand-make all racks in Portland, Oregon.

As a professional audio engineer, I’ve bought and used dozens of equipment racks. They have always been disappointing. Whether wood with thin, cracking veneers, ugly portable plastic, or that scruffy material that reminds me of Walmart kids' guitar amps.

Frustrated with the lack of options out there (affordable ones, at least), for folks who need a rack that looks nice, lasts a long time, and doesn’t break the bank, I started this business. My first customer was a coworker, and just 6 months later I made my 100th sale.

Every piece is made by hand to order by craftspeople who are passionate about what they do. We use the highest quality furniture-grade Baltic birch, and solid domestic hardwoods for our Heritage Series. After being finished and quality checked, each piece is packed up and sent straight to your door.

We make solid wood racks too! Our Heritage Series features American walnut and maple with dovetail joints, for those who enjoy the finer things. Want a specific wood species for your build? Hit us up, we can pretty much make one out of anything.
